Happy Hour With Social Heart

What’s better than an oozy, cheesy slice of pizza? How about a slice that is bigger than your face? On August 23, 2023, a fundraiser was held by Social Heart, benefiting The Whole Person. The event was hosted at Fat Sully’s, which is part of the Atomic Provisions area in Westport. Many patrons helped raise money to further The Whole Person’s mission of providing services to people with disabilities.

Our Blind Low Vision Coordinator, Kirby Hough, was TWP’s representative for the event. Though the coordinator was from the Blind Low Vision services, the event was open to everyone. Kirby’s excellent communication skills brought over 25 patrons to the fundraiser. Needless to say, the Fat Sully’s restaurant was quite busy! After all, who would say no to a large slice of pizza?

Fat Sully’s is known in Westport for pizzas with sizes that make other pizza makers weep. I am not exaggerating when I say that ONE slice was bigger than my head! A common sight was seeing hungry customers putting their slices on multiple plates. Not to mention, these pizzas are also New York style. Unsurprisingly, everyone was folding their slice in order to keep their grip on it. The pizzas being offered at the event were pepperoni, cheese, meat lovers, and more.

I went for the classic pepperoni. To my surprise, the pepperoni is actually the cupped-up version that you would normally see in New York. The dough was stretched long and thin, while managing to keep a nice chewy feel. I also had some of the garlic knots. The dough was a bit thicker than the pizza, but I love a fluffy garlicky bread. Oh, and do not worry too much about the size of the pizza. Surprisingly, it is not difficult to eat such a large slice. I even had a couple more slices. Though I tried to keep my urge down so other patrons could eat too.

The Happy Hour event raised money by selling raffle tickets to The Whole Person’s annual Night of Independence Gala. This year’s Gala is a “Casino Royale” theme and is even hosted at Harrah’s Casino. Many raffle tickets were sold and a lucky winner, whose name is redacted, was found. They won a pair of tickets to the Gala. What a fantastic deal!

Social Heart‘s Happy Hour Event was filled with fun and of course, happiness. The Whole Person managed to raise $750! Thank you to all the patrons that attended.
